Half Moon Owners

Bob was born in Onleyville and moved to West Warwick at age 10. Bob began his cooking career in February 1978 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His first job was a fish cutting apprentice. While learning to cut fish, he was offered a job in a small taco shack next door part time. He soon realized that he really liked cooking and decided to go in that direction. He was offered a job cooking at the Village Zoo, a small private club on Fort Lauderdale beach. The Village Zoo closed 8 months later and Bob worked several small jobs around Fort Lauderdale, learning more and more as he went.
In the summer of 1979, Bob answered an ad for a salad person at Frankies on the Water in Fort Lauderdale. There he met Clemente, the man who would be his mentor and driving force in developing his cooking style. Bob worked for Clemente at Frankies and then followed Clemente to La Taverna in Boca Raton. Clemente and his staff taught him everything about cooking. For Clemente everything was about the flavors. After you got the flavor perfect, you could work on the presentation.
Clemente closed La Taverna in November of 1984 and Bob decided to return to the northeast. He stopped in Danbury, Connecticut, and worked at Fitzwilly’s Restaurant for 6 months before returning to Rhode Island. Bob worked at the Wickford Inn in North Kingston, Stella's Restaurant in Cranston and Regines Restaurant in Middletown. At Regines Bob worked under Scott Vento learning Federal Hill or Rhode Island style Italian. Bob next spent 10 years at Puerinis in Newport. After Puerinis, Bob decided it was time to go out on his own. He mixed Clemente’s classic Italian with Regines Rhode Island Italian and Puerinis new Italian to create the menu at Roberto’s, in Bristol.
In August of 2006 Bob and his wife, Kerri, bought a restaurant in Coventry. Half Moon was opened on November 13th 2006 with Bob’s latest menu.
Kerri grew up in northern New Jersey and attended RISD as an architecture major and graduated from Roger Williams University with a BS in Historic Preservation with a minor in architecture. Kerri worked as a cocktail waitress at Muldoon's, G-Clef and Snookers over her college years. From 2000 to 2003, Kerri worked for the Steamship Historical Society of America and for Festival Ballet Providence. In February 2003, Kerri moved back to New Jersey and worked for Bergen County as the executive assistant to the County Administrator. In March of 2005, she moved back to Rhode Island to marry Bob. Currently, Kerri works in the HR department at GTECH as a HR Coordinator. At Half Moon, Kerri works behind the scenes on menus, book keeping and the web site. You can also find her filling in where ever she is needed.
